The Journey

Ash has had a very long journey so far, full of perils and adventure and excitement, as he aims to become a Pokémon Master. He's travelled with friends by his side, had to deal with a pesky trio of Pokémon thieves on a daily basis because of their obsession with Pikachu, met and wasted time hanging out with countless characters who had no impact on the plot and were never seen again, stuff like that.

Since it's been a very long journey and it's nowhere near over yet, I'll try to keep this brief otherwise I'll be here forever. It's been 12 years so far after all. That's quite a lot of travelling, you know.

The night before Ash was to start his Pokémon journey, he was so excited he couldn't sleep. Smashing his alarm clock while he slept didn't help matters and he woke up late. He had to run all the way over to Professor Oak's laboratory in his pajamas (and he looked so cute in his pajamas... but he always looks cute anyway! Er, enough of that...)

After a brief encounter with his rival to be, Gary, whom he apparently "met for the first time" (Not. The writers realised how little sense this made and eventually retconned it.) Ash went to pick his first Pokémon. (He was originally going to start with Squirtle.) However, the three starters were all gone and Professor Oak gave him the unruly Pikachu.

Pikachu was stubborn and refused to listen to Ash, until Ash risked his life to protect him from a flock of pissed off Spearow. Pikachu jumped in and saved Ash by letting off a fierce explosion that took out all the Spearow as well as the bike Ash had just borrowed from some girl fishing by the river.

Speaking of that girl fishing by the river... Misty was not happy and stomped all the way over to the Viridian City Pokémon Center with the destroyed bike in tow to give him a piece of her mind. It was there that they met Jessie, James and Meowth of Team Rocket, who were there to steal Pokémon. Ash proceeded to blow up the entire Pokémon Center using Pikachu and Team Rocket was blasted off for the very first time. They were never the same again after that...

Misty stuck by Ash's side, claiming that she wanted him to pay her back for the bike. When Ash came to the first gym, he met the gym leader, Brock. After losing twice with Pikachu, Brock felt sorry for him and gave him the badge anyway, telling him to go and follow his dreams. Since he had to look after his siblings, he couldn't go off and follow his own dream of being useless and doing absolutely nothing... I mean, becoming the world's best Pokémon Breeder. However, Brock's father, who had been helping Ash, turned up and Brock was free to go with Ash and Misty.

Ash traveled around Kanto, gathering all the badges he needed, and entered the Indigo League. Sadly, he lost in the top sixteen to Richie, but it was all Team Rocket's fault anyway for kidnapping him. If he'd just been allowed to let his Pokémon have some rest first so that they could recover after the stress of escaping from Team Rocket, he might have won after all. Darn Team Rocket.

Ash, Brock and Misty later traveled to the Orange Islands to get the GS Ball from Professor Ivy. It was there that Brock decided to stay on Valencia Island with her and they parted ways. Ash and Misty then met up with a Pokémon Watcher by the name of Tracey and he decided to stay with them so that he could meet his idol, Professor Oak. Ash heard about the Orange Crew and the Orange League, and his mind was set. The trio traveled around Orange Islands and Ash later went on to win the Orange League.

When they returned to Pallet Town, Ash and Misty were in for a shock. Brock had returned after some traumatising incident involving Professor Ivy that he wouldn't talk about. Professor Oak couldn't do anything with the GS Ball, so he asked Ash to take it to Kurt in Johto. Tracey stayed behind at the lab to be Oak's assistant and Ash, Misty and Brock set off to Johto.

After gathering eight badges, Ash entered the Silver Conference. He lost again, in the top eight. At least it wasn't Team Rocket's fault this time. Now that the journey was over, the trio went to Viridian City and Misty received a message from her sisters, asking her to return to the Cerulean City gym and watch over it. Her bike had also been repaired. Brock also had to leave, but it turned out to only be temporary anyway as he returned a few episodes later, while Misty left the group permanently.

Ash set off to Hoenn, changing his outfit in the process, and met up with May, a beginning trainer who knew nothing about Pokémon. He quickly took on a mentor like role, helping her out. Her younger brother, Max, also joined them as did Brock later on and the group of four went around Hoenn together. When it came to the Ever Grande Conference, Ash lost once more, again in the top eight.

Now that the journey in Hoenn was over, Ash returned to Pallet Town alone and he heard about the Battle Frontier. With Brock, May and Max returning, they traveled around Kanto so that Ash could beat the seven Frontier Brains and get all his symbols, which he did. With that journey coming to an end, May left for Johto and Max returned to his home. Brock returned to Pewter City. Ash went back home, meeting Gary who had been busy as a Pokémon researcher and had come from Sinnoh.

Hearing about Sinnoh and his curiosity being provoked by this Pokémon he had never seen before (Even though he'd already seen Munchlax, Mime. Jr, Weavile, Bonsly and Chatot... all of them funnily enough had Pokédex entries while Electivire didn't.) Ash decided that he wanted to go to this new region, naturally, and he set off to Sinnoh.

In Sinnoh, Ash met up with Dawn, also a beginning trainer, and Brock also joined up with him again. With a change of clothes and a new friend, he was off on another new journey. To this day, he currently travels in Sinnoh... how will he do in the league? I hope he at least gets to the top four this time.
